The Zombie Crawl: Raise the Dead for Dollars is a community zombie night and a fundraiser for the HUB-BUB Artists-in-Residence upcoming community art projects, including classes with the Boys and Girls Club of the Upstate, a Summer Art Show in winter, an Invitational Exhibit in January, and the Rungish Towers Project, a community art installation. Activities include Zombie Workshop 101, RIP (The Reanimated Individuals Parade) and the Dance Til You Die (Again) Party. The parade is free, but the workshop and dance have small costs to raise dollars for the Artists-in-Residence. Tickets are available in advance or at the door the night of the event. Join the undead as we crawl through Spartanburg and raise dollars for living art!

Mixing his spontaneous creativity and absurd view of the world, Rory Scovel is quickly making a name for himself across North America. Whether discussing drugs, politics, or life in general his infectious stage presence and engaging charisma will quickly shift the vibe of any room and place the audience in the scene of every punchline. Rory Scovel has been seen on CONAN, Late Night with Jimmy Fallon, Comedy Central’s “Live at Gotham” and Comedy Central’s “John Oliver’s New York StandUp Show.” He has opened for such comics as Louis CK, Daniel Tosh, and Nick Swardson. Rory Scovel is returning to the Southeast to perform his new cd “Dilation” released on October 4th, 2011. These tickets will go fast!

The Artists’ Guild of Spartanburg is hosting the Art Grab Bag on Saturday October 29th from 7:00 - 10:00 in the Lobby of the David Reid Theatre at the Chapman Cultural Center, downtown Spartanburg. This is a ticketed event; there are $75 and $25 tickets for purchase. The $75 tickets provide you admission into the event where you will enjoy heavy hors d’oeuvres provided by Palmetto Palate, drinks and live music performed by Big Folk (a great local duo). These $75 tickets also provide you a piece of artwork that you take home that evening. The artwork has been generously donated by members of the Artists’ Guild. New for this year is that for each $75 ticket sold, $15 of the sale will be used to start the Artists’ Guild Founder’s Scholarship which will be used to enrich the life of a young Spartanburg artist! November 1st: Writers’ Night Out (Revised): A New Writers’ Group
As of November 1, Writers’ Night Out will change focus from an open time for meeting other writers and quiet time for writing to a more structured writers’ critique group. This change comes by popular demand for the creation of a writers’ group in Spartanburg that would provide a strong community and critical feedback for writers of all levels. All writers are welcome to join and to come to this casual kick-off of the group, where we’ll get to know one another and our writing and pass out copies of our work (limit of 10 double-spaced pages of prose or 3 poems). The annual Piggy Bank Auction is the most unique auction in the Upstate! Bill Davis of Thomas Creek Brewery donates piggy banks that he hand creates, and then they are passed out to local artists to paint and decorate. Once returned, 50 pigs are placed in the silent auction and are auctioned off as works of art. 10 pigs are placed in a live auction and will have packages with them. Hors d’oeuvres, cocktails and great friends will make this an event you won’t want to miss.

The Spartanburg Regional History Museum hosts an extended exhibit of regional Native American history at the Chapman Cultural Center Sept. 1-Nov. 12, entitled “First People of the Backcountry.” This locally-developed exhibit shares the untold stories of cultures that had significant impact on the current lives of Spartanburg citizens - from the old Native American trails and their hunting grounds to the development of the City of Spartanburg. Native American artifacts including pottery, baskets, skins, tools and weapons will be on display with the history of the tribes that traveled through Spartanburg and other tribes of the wider region. Free admission but donations are accepted.
