The Zombie Crawl: Raise the Dead for Dollars is a community zombie night and a fundraiser for the HUB-BUB Artists-in-Residence upcoming community art projects, including classes with the Boys and Girls Club of the Upstate, a Summer Art Show in winter, an Invitational Exhibit in January, and the Rungish Towers Project, a community art installation. Activities include Zombie Workshop 101, RIP (The Reanimated Individuals Parade) and the Dance Til You Die (Again) Party. The parade is free, but the workshop and dance have small costs to raise dollars for the Artists-in-Residence. Tickets are available in advance or at the door the night of the event. Join the undead as we crawl through Spartanburg and raise dollars for living art!

The Artists’ Guild of Spartanburg is hosting the Art Grab Bag on Saturday October 29th from 7:00 - 10:00 in the Lobby of the David Reid Theatre at the Chapman Cultural Center, downtown Spartanburg. This is a ticketed event; there are $75 and $25 tickets for purchase. The $75 tickets provide you admission into the event where you will enjoy heavy hors d’oeuvres provided by Palmetto Palate, drinks and live music performed by Big Folk (a great local duo). These $75 tickets also provide you a piece of artwork that you take home that evening. The artwork has been generously donated by members of the Artists’ Guild. New for this year is that for each $75 ticket sold, $15 of the sale will be used to start the Artists’ Guild Founder’s Scholarship which will be used to enrich the life of a young Spartanburg artist! The annual Piggy Bank Auction is the most unique auction in the Upstate! Bill Davis of Thomas Creek Brewery donates piggy banks that he hand creates, and then they are passed out to local artists to paint and decorate. Once returned, 50 pigs are placed in the silent auction and are auctioned off as works of art. 10 pigs are placed in a live auction and will have packages with them. The American Foundation for Suicide Prevention (AFSP) is the leading national not-for-profit organization exclusively dedicated to understanding and preventing suicide through research, education and advocacy, and to reaching out to people with mental disorders and those impacted by suicide. The Out of the Darkness Community Walks are 3-5 mile walks taking place in over 200 communities across the country this fall. Spartanburg’s Out of the Darkness Walk was launched in 2009 by Sara Settlemyer following the tragic loss of her 21-year-old son, Casey Shelton, to suicide. Amy Wood will be hosting the event.

The Artists’ Guild of Spartanburg will host its 38th Annual Juried Show from Sept. 15 - Oct. 20 at the Carolina Gallery, at 145 W. Main St. in Spartanburg. It is free for public viewing each Tuesday-Friday, 10:30 a.m. - 5 p.m. and Saturdays, 11 a.m. - 4 p.m. each week. The exhibit consists of 55 winning selections that were chosen out of more than 200 entries submitted this year from artists in both North and South Carolina. The judging was done by Alfred D. Ward, Emeritus Professor of graduate programs in art at Winthrop University. Over $4000 in prizes will be awarded to winners in five categories: 2D-Painting; 2D-Drawing and Mixed Media; 2D-Photography and Digital Art; 3D-Sculpture, Ceramics, Jewelry, etc.; and Upcycle; as well as a Best in Show award. This fall the Regional History Museum is honoring the 100th anniversary of Spartanburg Methodist College with an exhibit that charts the development of the college from its beginnings in a house in Spartan Mill village with only a single student through its current existence as a 110-acre campus with an enrollment of nearly 800. Curated by SMC Historian Dr. Kathy Cann, the exhibit will include artifacts and textual information from the college’s collection.

People from more than 70 countries reside in Spartanburg, South Carolina and more than 100 international businesses make Spartanburg their home. In 1985 the City of Spartanburg hosted its first International Festival to celebrate Spartanburg’s diverse community, today the International Festival has expanded its International connection to reach a more global audience attendance. More than 8,000 people attend to celebrate and explore the world through food, music, dance, folk art and more. Since 2007, a country (or continent) has been selected by International Cultures of Spartanburg to be the honored country for the International Festival. Europe’s Nordic Region is our Honored Countries this year. Countries represented are: Denmark, Finland, Iceland, Norway and Sweden. It has been selected as a Top 20 Event in the Southeast by the Southeast Tourism Society for October – don’t miss it!

Carolina Gallery in Downtown Spartanburg
The Artists’ Guild of Spartanburg will host its 38th Annual Juried Show from Sept. 15 - Oct. 20 at the Carolina Gallery, at 145 W. Main St. in Spartanburg. It is free for public viewing each Tuesday-Friday, 10:30 a.m. - 5 p.m. and Saturdays, 11 a.m. - 4 p.m. each week. The exhibit consists of 55 winning selections that were chosen out of more than 200 entries submitted this year from artists in both North and South Carolina. The judging was done by Alfred D. Ward, Emeritus Professor of graduate programs in art at Winthrop University. Over $4000 in prizes will be awarded to winners in five categories: 2D-Painting; 2D-Drawing and Mixed Media; 2D-Photography and Digital Art; 3D-Sculpture, Ceramics, Jewelry, etc.; and Upcycle; as well as a Best in Show award.
